7 Best laptops for Minecraft Review

1. Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R74Z slim laptop

Acer has been a leader in mid-range laptops for many years. Their Aspire laptop for Minecraft range caters to a wide range of users, including those looking for an affordable portable device with more computing power than a Chromebook.

3. Newest Dell G5 SE 5505 15.6″ FHD IPS high-performance gaming laptop

The Dell G5 15 SE 2020 proves that performance can be high even in budget gaming laptops for Minecraft. The latest G5 15 rivals pricier laptops for speed, thanks to the AMD Ryzen processor and AMD Radeon graphics. The Dell laptop’s battery lasts longer than some of its more expensive rivals and is perfectly capable of running the most demanding PC games at a consistent frame rate.

The budget laptop Dell G5 15 SE (5505) looks great in this Supernova Silver finish with gray bezels on the bottom and rainbow dots on the lid. With a thickness of around 21.6 mm and a starting weight of around 2.5 kg, this is a large and heavy laptop. While the outer panels are mostly plastic, everything has been carefully assembled to give the laptop a solid feel.

There are two fans on both sides of the back panel to expel hot air. The Dell G5 15 SE (5505) has one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port, two USB 2.0 ports, one full-size HDMI port, one mini-Display port, Ethernet, a headphone jack, and a full-size SD card slot.

I’m very excited to see a card slot from Dell, as it’s often absent from gaming laptops for Minecraft. There is enough space between the ports on both sides of the laptop.

By displaying highly realistic, gaming-style sequences of 3D images with a focus on particles and lighting, 3DMark evaluates the relative performance of the graphics. We use two different 3DMark subtests appropriate for different system types: Sky Diver and Fire Strike.

Both tests use DirectX 11, but Sky Diver is more suited to mid-range PCs, while Fire Strike is designed to showcase high-end PCs. The results are exclusive points.

Pros

  • Outstanding processor performance
  • Very cheap for a gaming laptop
  • Fast and bright display
  • Budget laptop

Cons

  • Gets hot under load
  • The plastic construction feels flimsy
  • The graphics are good but not great

4. Lenovo Legion Y545 gaming laptop computer

Another great pick from our list of the best laptop for Minecraft, which is also great for many other games, is from the Lenovo store. Lenovo legion laptop for Minecraft has proven to be a game changer in the industry, releasing quality PCs for office workers and weekend gamers.

While we were in the middle of our research, a few features caught our attention.

Lenovo Legion Y545 (2019 model) is powered by 9th generation Intel Core i7-9750H and Ultra Low Voltage Platform for more performance. The most amazing feature is the superfast integration of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB GDDR6.

Storage capacity 1 TB HDD + 512 GB PCI-E SSD Solid State Drive. PCI-e SSDs are great for gaming and hosting lots of servers and a serious level of multitasking.

As for the design, this laptop for Minecraft has a 15.6-inch FHD display with improved resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and vivid colors. It also has an energy-efficient LED backlight, and developers have received positive reviews about its performance. This product has been hailed as Lenovo’s most durable and fastest gaming laptop.

Lenovo powers its Legion y545 with a 57 Watt lithium polymer battery. According to Lenovo legion, this battery should last 4 hours and 22 minutes without mains operation.

Since most gaming laptops don’t typically offer impressive battery life, this battery life seems to be okay. However, we cannot fully rely on the manufacturer’s promises.

To find out the actual battery life, the laptop had to pass several tests. This test included activities such as continuous web browsing and video streaming with Wi-Fi on and the screen brightness set to around 50%.

More impressively, the Dell G15 lasted 6 hours and 53 minutes on battery power. In summary, the Legion y545 scores six points in this battery life review.

The Legion Y545 is a versatile laptop, but primarily a gaming laptop. Therefore, it offers two powerful dedicated video cards. First, the high-end VRAM configuration is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with 6 GB of GDDR6. This VRAM has a boost frequency of 1770MHz and a base frequency of 1500MHz.

Second, the mid-range graphics configuration is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory. It also has a base frequency of 1365MHz and a boost frequency of 1680MHz. These dedicated NVIDIA video memories are capable of handling computing tasks ranging from basic processing tasks to demanding tasks like gaming.

Luckily, our review unit has a high-end NVIDIA GeForce GXT 1660 Ti graphics card. A series of tests were run to evaluate the performance of this video card. In particular, these tests include both benchmark tests and real-world tests. In addition, 3DMark FireStrike is used to analyze its performance.

3DMark is a benchmark tool that measures a computer’s gaming and graphics capabilities. Higher values are always better.

The Legion y545 scored 12,898 points on this test. Although this result is slightly below the 13,912 points of the Dell G5 15 and the 13,194 points of the Acer Predator Helios, it is still impressive. Additionally, the Legion y545 still outperformed the MSI GS65 Stealth and Acer Nitro 5, which scored 12,575 and 8,048 points, respectively.

Far Cry and Rise of the Tomb Raider were used to determine the actual gaming performance of this laptop. We tested how well the Legion y545 can run these games.

At the highest settings, the Legion y545 ran Rise of the Tomb Raider at 97 fps, beating most of the competition. The Acer Predator Helios 300 and the Dell G7 15 ran at 90 and 91 fps respectively. Both the Legion y545 and the Acer Predator Helios 300 ran Far Cry at 81 fps.

In general, we can say that the Legion y545’s GTX 1660 Ti graphics card can offer a three-digit frame-per-second range when the laptop is required for less demanding games.

Pros

  • Elegant, understated design
  • Great gaming and overall performance
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Excellent audio quality

Cons

  • Below-average battery life
  • Runs hot when gaming

5. HP 2020 Newest Pavilion X360 2-in-1 convertible 14″ HD touch-screen laptop

HP has introduced a new 2-in-1 convertible laptop that’s perfect for playing Minecraft. HP Pavilion x360 is a new product that can be converted into a tablet. It’s a 14-inch convertible laptop for Minecraft, with a 1080p IPS display and 8 GB of RAM. This laptop is affordable and has some of the best features.

The HP Pavilion x360 comes with Windows 10 Home and a 128 GB SSD. It supports Bluetooth technology and wireless devices such as iPhones and iPad. The touchpad is sensitive and responsive and supports Windows 10 gestures.

Although this device does not have an Ethernet port, it does offer USB 3.0 and USB Type-C ports. It also has an HDMI output, which is useful for watching movies. It has a large backlit keyboard and a one-piece touchpad.

The performance of the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14 is sufficient for simple tasks. This laptop for Minecraft games is equipped with a 10th-generation Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor, which is powerful enough to run games like Minecraft. The best feature of this laptop is its touch screen, and you can use it like a tablet.

The design of the HP Pavilion x360 14 is simple and elegant. The body is metal, but the plastic lid is not as sturdy as the HP Pavilion x360 14. The keyboard bends when pressed and the screen rotates completely.

It also has a metal cover and a metal hinge for added stability. The HP Pavilion x360 14 is a great buy if you’re looking for an affordable convertible laptop.

Pros

  • Powerful dual-core Intel processor.
  • Touch screen without light
  • 360-degree folding design
  • Wireless options
  • Slim and light
  • The price is right
  • Backlit keyboard

Cons

  • It heats up quickly

6. Acer Swift 3 thin & light laptop

You can also use the Acer Swift 3 Thin & Light laptop to play Minecraft. It’s not the best computer for heavy gaming, but it’s certainly fine for simple games like Minecraft. It features two built-in front-firing stereo speakers and supports DTS Audio, which includes enhanced bass response and micro-speaker distortion prevention.

Along with two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a full-size HDMI port, the Swift 3 has a fingerprint scanner for security. This fingerprint reader is compatible with Windows Hello.

The palm rest in the deck area is good, and the touchpad is slightly left of center below the keyboard. Overall, this laptop is solidly built and easy to transport from one place to another.

The Acer Swift 3 is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U octa-core mobile processor. It also has Radeon Graphics, 8 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. The long battery life makes it a good choice for those looking for a 14-inch laptop.

It features a 14-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The battery life of the Acer Swift 3 is particularly impressive, lasting over 11 hours and 9 minutes for a full day of use. In addition, the battery lasts for more than two hours of video playback.

Thanks to the all-aluminum body, the Swift 3 is pretty durable. The lid flexes a bit, but the keyboard resists flexing, and the bottom of the case is stiff.

The Swift 3 looks better than most of its competitors at this price point, like the Vivobook S 14X and Inspiron 14 2-in-1, but it doesn’t quite play in the same league as pricier laptops like the Dell XPS 15 and Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7. The quality extends to the hinge, which allows you to open the lid with one hand but keeps the display securely in place.

Unusually for a 14-inch laptop, the Swift 3 has a second, user-accessible SSD slot. Adding another SSD can either speed up your laptop or increase storage space by up to 2 TB.

Aesthetically, the Swift 3 is a laptop with a simple design, no frills, and elegant corners. It comes in three cover colors – silver, blue, and gold – and my review unit was all silver.

It’s an attractive and minimalist laptop that’s very similar to many others that have recently launched, including the Vivobook S 14X and the Inspiron 14 2-in-1. Merely the plastic display frame disturbs the overall picture. The HP Pavilion Plus 14 is an example of a competitive laptop with a sleeker look.

Swift 3 has thin sidebars, and the top and bottom bars are not that modern. Overall, the laptop has an 86% screen-to-body ratio, which is good for mid-range laptops but falls well short of premium laptops, which are 90% or better.

The Swift 3 is thin (0.63 inches) and light (2.76 pounds), on par with the Vivobook S 14X (0.70 inches and 3.53 pounds) and Inspiron 14 2-in-1 (0.70 inches and 3.61 pounds) is comparable.

Because of the 16:9 aspect ratio, the Swift 3 is wider than laptops with 16:10 displays, but not as deep. This is a very portable laptop that won’t take up too much space or weight in your backpack.

Ports

Connectivity is solid with two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a full-size HDMI 2.0 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. An SD card reader is missing, which is disappointing, but the inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 at this price point is welcome.

Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 provide state-of-the-art wireless connectivity.

Performance

The Core i7-1260P performed well in the laptops we tested, offering a significant boost over 11th Gen Intel processors. However, some laptops stand out as performing better than the chip average. I have listed two of them in the table below, and one of them is Swift 3.

Like the MSI Prestige 14, the Swift 3 performed exceptionally well in our test suite. It outperformed the Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Yoga Gen 7 with a Core i7-1260P processor that performed closer to average.

It was also as fast or even faster than some thin-and-light laptops with 45W 14-core, 20-thread Intel Core i7-12700H processors, notably the HP Pavilion Plus 14 and Asus Vivobook S 14X. I tested Swift 3 in Balanced and Performance modes and reported both results. The thermal management utility in the Swift 3 wasn’t as important as in some other laptops.

The Swift 3 was essentially the same as the Prestige 14 in Geekbench 5, our Handbrake test, which encodes 420 MB video in H.265, and Cinebench R23, and both topped the list, with 45-watt chips at the strongest in Cinebench.

The Prestige 14 was faster on PCMark 10 Complete, a strong benchmark, with the Swift 3 finishing third behind MSI and the Asus ZenBook S 13 OLED with AMD Ryzen 7 6800U.

Pros

  • Good battery life
  • 512 GB SSD – storage
  • Widescreen IPS display with Full-HD resolution
  • Backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader

Cons

  • The brightness is a bit low

7. Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-53E5 gaming laptop

Finally, the last gaming laptop for Minecraft on the list and yes, it’s the most powerful because it has an even better graphics card.

RTX GPU: 3050Ti

What this laptop for Minecraft offers is NOT more frame rates (well, it does give out more frame rates, but that’s not why you should buy it).

This suggests enabling the RTX (ray tracing) feature in Minecraft. This option will appear if your laptop or PC has an RTX GPU, 1650GTX, or any of the other non-RTX GPU graphics previously covered. The 3050Ti as well as the 3060, 3070RTX, and 3080RTX are RTX GPUs. I won’t list other RTX GPUs because they are too powerful for this game.

This feature makes the interaction between light and objects (that is, shadows) a much more realistic level, as shown in the image below:

Most websites usually recommend a 3060RTX to enable this cool feature, but you don’t really need a 3060RTX or any other RTX GPU, the 3050Ti is ALL you need here. These guys probably don’t know that the 3050Ti is still an RTX GPU.

Anyway, the point is, if you want to enable this feature and play on ray tracing cards, you don’t need to spend more than $800.

3050Ti: RTX Minecraft GPU performance

Ignore the framerate (it’s not high because the graphics card is pumped up), and notice how smooth the color transitions look and how the light interacts with objects, creating more realistic shadows and forcing the scenario to change dramatically, for example, Neon District 21:35.

An alternative to this model is the Lenovo Ideapad 3 with 3050Ti. I have this model, which should be slightly faster than the Acer Nitro 5 (because of the better multicore performance of AMD Ryzen 5).

Shaders

The shader with the most hardware requirements I can think of is the SEUS PTGI HIGH HRR, it’s a lot heavier than the Chocapic and the only laptop it will run smoothly on (assuming you have up to 16 GB of RAM – for mine, there is a guide here).

Mods

The most extreme mod pack is the Patrix resource pack, and it will probably crash most of the laptops on this list this one, although it will work fine will likely drop frames and slow down from time to time.

If you have this mode in your arsenal and want it to run smoothly, you don’t need to upgrade your GPU performance, just find a laptop with a more powerful processor.

What about 3060RTX? 3070RTX? Are they really useless?

IMO, they are useless if you just want to play the game with shaders and mods in 1080p. However, if you want to play the game at 1440p and even 4k. I would say the 3060RTX is perfect for 1440p gaming, while the 3070RTX/3080RTX is ideal for 4K gaming. Since most people don’t play Minecraft at that resolution, I thought it was a waste of time.

Acer Nitro 5 is an affordable gaming laptop that you can play Minecraft. Powerful performance and brand-new design make this laptop a great choice for budget gamers. This gaming laptop for Minecraft has a stylish design with red decorations and minimal frills.

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53E5 gaming notebook offers high performance at a mid-range price. The laptop’s Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU and 4 GB of VRAM ensure good real-world gaming results. It also has a powerful Intel Core i5-10300H processor.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53E5 gaming laptop has a decent touchpad. The keys are stable and have a good drop. This device has 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. You have a 15.6-inch FHD display with a 144Hz refresh rate.

The keyboard is backlit, which makes it ideal for gaming. The battery life of the Acer Nitro 5 AN515 55-53E5 gaming laptop is remarkable. Despite the power consumption, the battery life of this laptop is more than eleven hours.

Pros

  • FHD screen with 144Hz refresh rate
  • Powerful Intel Core i5 processor
  • Ultimate gaming performance with NVIDIA GPU
  • Up to 11 hours of battery life
  • Better graphics card

Cons

  • Runs hot
  • Bulky and Heavy
  • Low-quality material

How to choose the best laptop for Minecraft?

Looking for a laptop to play Minecraft? Here are the most important things to consider when making a new build, regardless of which version of Minecraft game you’re playing.

While gaming is sometimes reserved for consoles or desktop computers, laptops are making inroads into the industry. But there are some essential factors that we have discussed in this article.

Laptops are designed to take away some of the functionality of desktop PC while still being presentable, convenient, and easy to use.

As laptops become the next generation of gaming, remember that laptops were never designed to be as capable as desktops or consoles.

Some people prefer to play on the console for most games, but in this case, almost all gamers choose to play Minecraft on a PC rather than on a console that was a console designed for a PC, so choosing the best laptop for Minecraft games is really important.

However, our analysis shows that this generation of laptops has more advanced graphics and bigger fans to keep up with the competition.

Laptops now walk a fine line between everyday office work and gaming hardware for easier decision-making, and companies are now investing heavily in making a series of gaming laptops.

Among the many options available in the market, we’ve scoured the range and found a great list for you.

Depending on the games you play and the aesthetics you want, the choices may vary. However, in the end, the choice you make from our list will help you in the long run.

Display

When you play on a laptop, the laptop screen is your home screen and thus greatly affects your gaming experience. Even if you have a full-fledged laptop, it will not be a comfortable experience with a dim screen.

Here are the key points for choosing a monitor: high resolution, good color accuracy, brightness, and refresh rate.

Look for reviews on the laptop you are considering buying and make sure it has a good screen.

Performance specs

The main components to consider are RAM, GPU, and CPU. It really depends on your budget and what exactly you want to do with playing Minecraft.

If you just want to run it somehow and are on a budget, you can pick up a cheap laptop with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5G processor and use integrated graphics.

Make sure you have at least 8 GB of RAM and a computer capable of running Minecraft.

If you want to use shader packs or more intense graphics, or want to use a monitor with a higher refresh rate, consider a dedicated graphics card like the RTX 3060 or 3070 if you can afford the extra.

Likewise, if you plan to stream, you should buy a laptop with an 8-core processor and get more RAM. If you can find them in stock, something with a Ryzen 7 processor or higher from the last two generations would be amazing.

Usability

There are other things too, like the overall build and durability of the laptop. As well as additional features such as a touch screen or beautiful speakers for Minecraft or add-ons such as a fingerprint sensor.

These features aren’t strictly needed for gaming, but remember to consider other uses when making a purchase decision.

Should you buy a cheap Minecraft laptop?

Minecraft, the popular game that took the world by storm in 2009, is still in demand. While both kids and adults can enjoy this sandbox game, buying a laptop specifically for this purpose is not an easy task.

Minecraft is one of those rare games that never expected to become so popular or widespread. For this reason, choosing a cheap laptop with enough power to play efficient games requires several considerations.

Gaming performance, while not the most important component of a laptop, is still vital. A cheap Minecraft gaming laptop must have a decent processor and integrated graphics card to run the game. The laptop should have 4 GB of RAM and 2 GB of internal memory. Most cheap gaming laptops for Minecraft have all these essential features. So yes, they are totally worth it.

You can easily invest in a cheap laptop to play Minecraft instead of a PC or gaming console. The cheap laptop is more portable and versatile. You can use it to play other games and also take it with you from place to place.

Compared to desktop computers, budget laptops are much more portable. This means that a Minecraft player can take their laptop with them wherever they go.

In addition, gaming laptops for Minecraft games have more RAM than standard budget laptops, allowing them to run more programs simultaneously. This allows Minecraft players to have more memory and enjoy a faster gaming experience. A gaming laptop can also handle more video cards and is more powerful than a standard laptop.

Another advantage of using a cheap laptop for Minecraft is the screen resolution. Full-HD displays with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels are perfect for playing Minecraft. The screen is also bigger and more attractive to play on. All these features of cheap laptops make them perfect for playing Minecraft and other games.

Buyers Guide

Choosing the right budget laptop is a very important decision, after all, computers aren’t cheap, and you don’t want to be stuck with something that doesn’t suit your needs.

The last thing you want to do is spend over $1,000 on something that doesn’t actually play the games you or your child want to play.

And while that’s a really important decision, it’s only complicated by the fact that when you read the descriptions, there are so many words, letters, and numbers that it’s hard to really figure out what they all mean. what is good? What really matters?

In this buying guide, I’ll go over what these different things actually mean and how much/how much you need to run Minecraft on a desktop PC.

Operating system

You may see this word as the full word “operating system” or it may be abbreviated as “OS.” So what is an operating system? Basically, it is software or program that runs on a computer and manages the computer’s resources.

If you want to play Minecraft on your computer, the minimum operating system required is Windows 7 64-bit. Anything older than this system absolutely cannot run the game.

Of course, computers are always being updated and upgraded. Windows 7 is absolutely the oldest system it can run on. But it can run much better and faster on newer OS versions.

For a better gaming experience, it is recommended that your operating system is at least 64-bit Windows 10.

Processor

The next thing to consider is your computer’s processor. The processor, also known as the CPU, provides the instructions and processing power that the computer needs to do its job.

The more powerful/updated your processor is, the faster your computer will perform its tasks. If you consider the speed of reactions in online games, you will understand how important it is to look for a powerful processor.

For Minecraft to run fast and efficiently, it is ok to have at least an Intel Core i3 3210 | You need as a minimum requirement AMD A8 7600 or equivalent.

However, it’s still relatively old and while you can play it, it’s unlikely that the game will run smoothly.

If you want to have higher quality gameplay, it is recommended that your computer has an Intel Core i5 4690 | It has AMD A10 7800 or equivalent.

Graphics cards

Integrated graphics cards are known by different names. So, when you hear any of the following terms, you know that they are also different terms for video cards: graphics card, graphics adapter, VGA card, or display adapter.

It is basically a graphics card that produces a feed of output images to a display device (your computer screen). You guessed it, better video cards give you better graphics. This can make the gameplay more enjoyable.

Your minimum graphics requirement for playing Minecraft is HD Graphics 4000 series or Intel’s AMD Radeon R5 Nvidia GeForce 400 series.

The recommended graphics for the best-run Minecraft gameplay are Nvidia GeForce 700 series and AMD Radeon Rx 200.

Memory

Your computer’s memory is the electronic storehouse of instructions and data that the computer needs to access quickly. Basically, all information is kept here for immediate use.

Memory is one of the most basic functions of your computer and without it, the computer cannot really work. So, of course, the more games (and guides) you want to store on your computer, the more memory you’ll need.

The minimum amount of computer memory you need to play Minecraft is 4 GB. The recommended memory you need is 8 GB.

But remember that this only applies to the game itself. If you want to multitask on your computer, you’ll need more than these exact values to do other things as well.

Disk space

Again, this can have many names: disk space, storage capacity, or disk capacity. But basically, the storage space is the maximum amount of data that the hard drive can hold.

Obviously, games like Minecraft contain a significant amount of data, so you need to make sure you have the storage space for it.

The minimum required disk space is 180 MB to 1 GB.

Why does Minecraft work fine on my phone but not on some laptops, knowing that even old cheap laptops are so much bigger and more powerful?

Good question. Phones can even run CoD and PUBG, which are much more demanding on graphics, and even Pentium and Celeron processors can run much more compelling games on Windows 10 S and Chrome OS.

However… The core engine of Minecraft is quite old and based on Java. Java is a programming language that is not well suited for developing games and large applications (it is slow due to garbage collection).

Another reason is that your Xbox, phone, and Chromebook do not have a full version of Windows, which requires a lot of hardware resources and leaves almost nothing for Minecraft when playing on Pentium 4 GB and above laptops.

How to improve fps in Minecraft on a laptop

There are dozens of tricks and ways to improve game performance, including increasing RAM and adding an SSD. I will cover the basics that you can do now without fiddling with any equipment. Please note that these are the basics. There are many more ways on YouTube.

Optifine

The most popular way is to simply install Optifine. This will help HUGELY if you have a very old rig or a cheap laptop lagging behind the MC. I advise you to install and run it before physically updating this rig.

How does it work? Well, it improves the game’s multicore efficiency, meaning if your CPU has more than 2 threads (which is probably the case with laptops in the last 10 years), all other cores or threads are used.

Java edition

You will find people on the forums complaining that they have no problem running games like CyberPunk 2027, but are lagging behind when playing Minecraft. The problem is most likely in the installed version of Java. So make sure you have the CORRECT version of Java edition for the version of Minecraft you have installed. Here is a good tutorial with supported Java versions.

Virus protection

Yes, installing an antivirus program can help. If you’ve used mods and downloaded them from nowhere, you’ve probably picked up some viruses and, of course, malware as well. Get a free antivirus, run a full scan, and you’ll be amazed at the results.

Background apps

Very simple advice that most people ignore: don’t leave anything else running in the background. You can also go more extreme and install software like Razer Cortex Game Booster, which kills all unnecessary tasks and background processes.

It will launch them again when you close Minecraft. Much safer than pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and randomly getting rid of tasks to see if there’s a difference.

Hardware optimization

Magic launcher for Minecraft and other games. If you are behind the times and use mods, this software will come in very handy. In fact, this is optimized for modified Minecraft. This allows more RAM to be allocated to Java, making mods more efficient.

I know I said that allocating more RAM doesn’t help, but running mods and adding extra stuff to the vanilla version of the game does help. This will also reduce the window size, which means less image data needs to be processed, resulting in a higher frame rate.

Can you play Minecraft on integrated graphics?

Certainly, Minecraft is more of a CPU game than a GPU game. The graphics card only matters if you want to play Minecraft at 1080p with shaders and lots and lots of chunks.

All integrated graphics released in the last 5 years should allow you to play the game with at least 16 chunks loaded in 1080p resolution, and you can even download some mods (virtually all within the last 5 years) and run a few light shaders (the latest ones).

That is of course, as long as they have a good CPU. If you have a Celeron, Pentium, or AMD AX (A9, A7), it won’t even handle the vanilla version of Minecraft Java Edition.

What’s the maximum RAM Minecraft will use?

It’s true that more RAM helps with most games, and this is especially true with running Minecraft, as the game uses a software paging system that scales “horizontally”. This means that with more RAM memory (or video memory) you can do better ‘paging’ or ‘refreshing’ (which means more chunks/objects are loaded into the game BEFORE you interact with them).

When people complain about lag in Minecraft, it’s usually because they have the wrong graphics settings (too many chunks) for the amount of random access memory (RAM) they have. More chunks (rendering) require more RAM.

The maximum I’ve found useful is around 12 GB (allocated to the JVM – MC Launcher), after that RAM didn’t help framerates when 32 chunks were set for the rendering distance. Since 12 GB is not a practical number, I would say 16 GB.

Conclusion

If you want to play Minecraft, you can simply invest in a cheap laptop. This game does not require high-end hardware specifications to run and can easily be played on cheap gaming laptops. These laptops are versatile, portable, and affordable. Besides playing Minecraft, you can use them for other purposes as well.
